Rita is a founding partner of Unit LEGAL in 2004 (previously called Espanha e Associados – Sociedade de advogados, SP, RL), and is the partner responsible for coordinating the Commercial and Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions and Privacy and Personal Data Protection teams.

Professional Experience

Before founding Unit LEGAL in 2004, she worked as an associate lawyer with Capitão, Espanha, Rodrigues Bastos, Areia e Associados – Law Firm, between 2002 and 2004, and with Capitão, Espanha, Goes, Miguel, Rodrigues Bastos e Associados – Law Firm, between 1999 and 2002.
She did an internship at the law firm Sousa Machado, Ferreira da Costa e Associados – Law Firm, where she also worked as an associate lawyer (1997-1999).

Practice Areas

Rita has extensive experience in corporate restructuring operations for national and foreign clients, taking on the coordination of these projects, as well as coordinating teams in the areas of commercial and corporate law and in merger, acquisition and disposal operations of companies, namely, within the scope of legal audits, drafting and negotiation of contracts and shareholder agreements.
She has also been providing advice to national and foreign clients in strategic areas of business, namely in the area of ​​corporate governance and corporate law in general.
Rita has also developed her experience in the area of ​​Privacy and Personal Data Protection, and is currently the partner responsible for this area of ​​practice at Unit LEGAL.

Academic Qualifications

She completed her degree in 1996 (Faculty of Law of the Lusíada University), and in 2003 a Postgraduate Degree in Banking, Stock Exchange and Insurance Law from the Institute of Banking, Stock Exchange and Insurance Law of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra. In 2002, she also completed the Practical Course in Accounting and Balance Sheet Analysis, taught by the Business Institute of Accounting and Economics.
